The Heart of It
86Hours.com exists to help people set aside time twice a year to seek God through prayer and fasting. Our desire is simple: to create a quiet, intentional space where people can draw closer to Jesus, strengthen discipline, and listen for the voice of God.
This is not a paid program. This is not coaching. This is not a product. This is a free ministry gathering.
All glory belongs to God.
What it is
The 86-hour fast is a semi-annual guided spiritual fast that begins after dinner on Monday and ends Friday morning at breakfast. We meet virtually each day for prayer, encouragement, Scripture, and accountability.
The focus is not performance. The focus is surrender.
Why we fast
Six reasons we set aside food and turn our attention to the Father.
We fast to hunger more deeply for Jesus and return our attention to Him.
Fasting teaches the body that it is not king. Appetite comes under authority.
As the noise quiets, we make space to hear God more clearly.
If you can say no to food sitting in your own pantry, you can do hard things.
The physical reset is a bonus. The spiritual reset is the heart.
We do this together through daily Zooms, group encouragement, and Scripture.
The next gathering
Approximately 86 hours from Monday after dinner to Friday morning breakfast. All times Central. All Zooms free.

Biblical fasting stories
God's people fasted in moments of consecration, repentance, intercession, discernment, and spiritual warfare.
Jesus
fasted before public ministry.
Matthew 4:1–11
Moses
fasted as covenant mediator.
Exodus 34:28
Esther
fasted before courageous intercession.
Esther 4:16
Daniel
fasted for revelation and repentance.
Daniel 9:3
Nehemiah
fasted before rebuilding the walls.
Nehemiah 1:4
The Early Church
fasted before sending missionaries.
Acts 13:2–3
“When you fast…”
Matthew 6:16
Jesus did not say "if you fast." He said "when you fast." The goal is not public attention. The goal is private surrender before the Father.
Please read carefully
This fast is voluntary, free, and not medically supervised. Please use wisdom and seek guidance from a qualified medical professional if you have any health condition, take medication, are pregnant, are under 18, are over 65, have diabetes, have a history of eating disorders, have gout, have blood pressure concerns, or are unsure whether fasting is safe for you.
Stop and seek help
Stop fasting and seek help if you experience chest pain, fainting, confusion, severe weakness, persistent vomiting, severe dizziness, heart palpitations, or anything that feels unsafe.
A few honest questions
A printable copy of the full warning to read, share, or bring to your doctor.
Carefully framed
Many people pursue fasting for potential benefits like metabolic reset, improved food discipline, reduced cravings, and greater awareness of the body. Some research suggests fasting may support markers related to insulin sensitivity, triglycerides, blood pressure, and autophagy, but this is not the main purpose of our fast.
Our focus is spiritual: prayer, surrender, devotion, discipline, and seeking God.
